Penn hip is a much newer technique of evaluating a patient for hip dysplasia. Using a set of 5 radiographs in different positions and states of compression and distraction, the Penn Hip technique looks for laxity (looseness) in the hips in a way that a single OFA film cannot mimic. This technique requires extra training, equipment, and general anesthesia. While more expensive and involved than OFA films, we feel it is the superior technique for hip evaluation.
