What to Expect

What Dunwoody pet owners are saying

The staff was friendly and helpful while dealing with an urgent situation that occurred even prior to Bella's 1st appt. Their communication system is wonderful and they sent follow-up messages to check the progress of Bella's health concerns. I can't say enough about how well everyone there took care of Bella. The ease of scheduling an appointment, and speaking with the staff were an absolute bonus. Bella is my baby and I trust she's in good hands here. — Kapri T.

Everyone at this veterinary practice is very kind and accommodating. Went above and beyond to make our visit comfortable and took amazing care of my dogs. Greatly appreciate their knowledge and helpfulness. Highly recommend. — Kelly B.

What happens at your first visit

Your first appointment at Dunwoody Animal Medical Center is 40 minutes — nearly double what most practices schedule. That extra time means your vet can actually listen, answer every question, and start building a real relationship with your pet from day one. Here's exactly what to expect.

Step 1 — A warm welcome

When you arrive, you'll be greeted by name and invited to relax in our reception area. If your pet is curious, they're welcome to explore. If they're anxious, we'll move at their pace. Fair warning: our 300-gallon saltwater reef tank tends to distract both pets and their owners.

Step 2 — History & intake with your technician

Before the doctor comes in, one of our veterinary technicians will sit down with you to gather your pet's history — previous records, current diet, and any concerns you've noticed at home. This isn't a checkbox exercise. It's so your vet walks in already knowing your pet, not meeting them cold.

Step 3 — Your exam with the veterinarian

Your veterinarian will conduct a thorough nose-to-tail physical exam, walk you through their findings in plain language, and answer every question you came in with — and probably a few you didn't know to ask. If diagnostics or treatment are recommended, they'll explain the why before anything is scheduled.

Step 4 — Wrap-up, education & checkout

Your technician will return to go over any follow-up care instructions and answer any remaining questions. You'll pay and schedule your next visit right from the exam room — no waiting at a front desk on your way out.

Running a few minutes behind? We do our best to see every client on time, but we're also the kind of practice that won't rush the pet who needs a little extra care. We appreciate your patience — and we promise to give your pet that same attention when it's their turn.

Ready to book your first visit? Same-day appointments are often available for sick pets. New wellness visits are typically scheduled within the week.

Before your first visit — 3 quick steps

We want your first appointment to be as smooth as possible. Here's what to do before you arrive.

  1. Complete your new client forms online

Our new client forms take about five minutes and can be completed from your phone or computer before your visit. Filling them out ahead of time means less paperwork at the office and gives your vet a head start on your pet's care. → Complete New Client Forms

  2. Send us your pet's previous medical records

If your pet has seen another veterinarian, email their records to [email protected] before your appointment. We'll review everything so your vet arrives prepared — no starting from scratch. → Email records to [email protected]

  3. Bring a high-value treat from home

This one might surprise you. As a clinic that takes a low-stress approach to veterinary care, we use positive reinforcement to keep your pet calm and comfortable throughout their visit. A favorite treat — something they don't get every day — goes a long way toward making your pet's first visit a good memory.

Why Dunwoody pet owners choose us

AAHA Accredited

The American Animal Hospital Association accredits fewer than 15% of veterinary practices in the United States. Earning that accreditation means we meet rigorous standards for medicine, safety, equipment, and patient care — and we choose to hold ourselves to that standard every day.

Low-Stress and Fear-Free Practices

A low stress visit isn't just gentler — it's better medicine. When your pet isn't stressed, we get more accurate exam findings, your pet cooperates more fully, and you leave without a traumatized animal in the back seat. Every member of our team is trained in low-stress handling techniques.
