The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals was established in as a means to begin screening dogs for hip dysplasia, in hopes of reducing the incidence of the disease. Hip dysplasia is characterized by a “loose” hip joint that over time develops arthritis due to the prolonged use of an unstable hip joint By using a standard view, all dogs can have their hips evaluated and subjectively graded from excellent to severely dysplastic. While we feel it is important for prospective puppy purchasers to ask their breeder about the OFA status of the parents, it does not in any way guarantee that you puppy will be free of dysplasia. We are happy to go into more detail with you if the need arises.
